Saadani National Park Day Safari
OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
Early Morning Departure:
- Your safari adventure begins with an early morning departure for Saadani National Park. The park, uniquely situated next to local villages, is a haven for wildlife, including four of the Big Five.
2. Wildlife Observation (Morning):
- Experience a morning of wildlife observation, understanding the challenge of spotting the Big Five due to their low numbers and cautious behavior. The animals, aware of the proximity to local villages, tend to hide to avoid interaction with the local population, whom they perceive as potential threats.
3. Masai Giraffes and Other Wildlife:
- Encounter a population of Masai giraffes, along with other fascinating species such as Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, common waterbucks, bohor reedbucks, blue wildebeests, common and red duikers, Dik-Diks, yellow baboons, vervet and blue sykes monkeys, Colobus and White-bearded emperor tamarin monkeys, mongooses, genets, and porcupines.
4. Large Herbivores and Reptiles:
- Marvel at the sight of greater kudus, elands, sable antelopes, warthogs, hippos, crocodiles, and Nile monitors. Saadani National Park is home to a diverse range of large herbivores and reptiles.
5. Elephant and Big Cat Observation:
- While African bush elephants, lions, and leopards may be more elusive, with a bit of luck, you might spot them. Keep a lookout for herds of up to 30 elephants and several lion prides. Spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals also inhabit the park.
6. Lion Conservation Unit:
- Learn about Saadani National Park’s status as a Lion Conservation Unit since 2005, emphasizing the importance of protecting these majestic predators within the area.
7. Wami River and Bird Watching:
- Explore the Wami River, a habitat for the beautiful mangrove kingfisher and lesser flamingo. Enjoy bird watching and appreciate the diverse avian species that call this river home.
8. Turtle Breeding Site:
- Visit the park’s beaches, recognized as one of the last major green turtle breeding sites on the mainland. Learn about the conservation efforts to protect these incredible marine creatures.
9. Lunch in the Park:
- Take a break for lunch within the park, surrounded by the natural beauty and sounds of wildlife.
10. Afternoon Safari:
- Continue your safari adventure into the afternoon, with opportunities for further wildlife encounters and exploration.
