MATERUNI IS THE HOME OF THE CHAGGA TRIBE

Materuni, the home of the Chagga tribe, is a captivating village situated just 15km from Moshi Town, making it the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park.

Your day begins with a morning pick-up in Moshi by our English-speaking guide. Upon reaching Materuni Village and registering at the village office, the adventure unfolds.

The first stop is the mesmerizing waterfalls, a 40-minute walk away. Along the way, your guide shares insights into Chagga culture, village life, and details about the surrounding flora and fauna. The breathtaking views may offer a glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s summit. The waterfalls, standing at over 80 meters, provide a scenic backdrop, and the pool at the bottom invites you for a refreshing swim, so be sure to bring your swimwear.

After immersing yourself in the natural beauty, you head back to Materuni village with your guide. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch, including the opportunity to taste the local banana beer – a must-try!

But the experience doesn’t end there. The next adventure is the coffee experience, where you’ll learn about coffee cultivation, drying, roasting, and processing. You’re invited to participate in grinding the coffee, accompanied by traditional Chagga songs and dances, offering a delightful immersion into the local culture. Before bidding farewell and returning to Moshi in the afternoon, you can savor the coffee you helped make while enjoying views of the surrounding rainforest.

Note: We recommend private transport due to potential delays and overcrowding with public transport. Departures from other locations (Arusha, Marangu, Kilimanjaro International Airport, etc.) are possible upon request, with pricing details provided upon inquiry.
