Welcome to Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, near Tanzania. The biggest one is called Unguja, but people often just say Zanzibar. It’s a really cool place with nice beaches, quiet forests where you can find special monkeys, areas where dolphins like to hang out, and an old town with small stone streets full of history. Up in the north and west, there are lots of beaches with blue water and coral reefs. In the southeast, surfers and people who like dolphins really enjoy the waves.

If you go to Zanzibar, you can do lots of fun things like visiting spice plantations, walking in Jozani Forest, trying deep-sea fishing, or meeting big tortoises on Prison Island—some are more than 150 years old! And if you just want to relax, you can get a massage on the beach and have some drinks while watching the sunset.

Zanzibar has a history mixed with Arab, Portuguese, and Indian influences. You can see this in fancy carved doors and beds and taste it in the spicy food and coffee. Even though Zanzibar feels like its own world, it’s still an important part of Tanzania and a great place to visit after seeing animals in the big parks.
