Day hiking Marangu route, Marangu Gate (1,800 m) – Mandara Hut (2,800 m )
Hiking/Ascent time: 4 – 5 hours
Habitat: Montane forest
Leave Arusha town at about 07:00 am and drive to Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro. Do the necessary paperwork at the park gate such as registrations. Begin hiking at about 10:00 am. Hike through rain forest from the park gate (1,800 m) to Mandara Hut (2,800 m), taking about 4 – 5 hours. Stop halfway for lunch. Reach Mandara Huts at about 02.00 pm. After a short tour at the hut and start coming down to Marangu gate and you may reach the gate around 04:45 pm. A side trip to Maundi Crater (about 15 minutes away) is a good way to see the surroundings as well as views
